Muhammar Morning Joe

Morning Joe is wall-to-wall reporting of unconfirmed reports of rumors of stories of leaks of tales of chatter that maybe, possibly, could be, might be that Muhammar Qadaffi is dead or infured or hurt or captured or gravely injured or shot through both legs or something.
This is what passes as news nowadays. I'm left wondering ... If the media is churning on this ... Whats being unreported. Whats my attention being diverted from?

WAR!

Just within the 3:00 hour, on the air in Chicago, IL Senator Mark Kirk beats the drum loudly on WLS radio. His reaction to the press conference of FBI, DEA and AG Holder. Kirk's plan? Declare war! Take action to cripple Irans economy.

Ummm... Wow.
That's sure distracting! From the Motley protesters. From Fast 'n Furiousness.
Lemmee see. FBI, DEA, AG Holder.
Y'know thats like seeing all the bad boys hanging around together on the corner.

I'd like to ask them, Where's CIA?
Ain't he usually hanging around with you Choir Boys?
Wag the Dog much, Mr. AG?

Nevermind. I'm sure it's my fevered imagination.
You guys have never lied to me before.
Nevermind that the lunatic fringe broadcasts that use the Imperial March as their bumpers, have been predicting this kind of scenario for years. Just a co-inky-dink I'm sure.

Why should I believe any of this?
The straps on my wookie suit are pinchin' this afternoon. Maybe time for a bigger one.

And Senator Kirk? Can we close down one or two current wars before we open this next one?

The Future of American Housing

h/t reader Belligerent Litigant dropped me a note. He went all Wall Street Occupation Force on me.

Having discussed alternate housing options with him in the recent past, he sent this along ...

Are you still dreaming of tiny houses?  100 s.f. McMansions?  Pfffft!  Dreaming of having one hundred whole square feet to oneself, it's like a capitalist thought crime.  How many of those enormous square feet are stolen from the Proletariat?  The aspiration of it reeks of greed.

Here is what you need: dumpster home

Thank you Sir. May I have another?

Protest!

So ... The peeps are in the street. Power to the people 'n all that.

Wall Street, LA, Chicago, Boston

'Bout time that an unruly mob asks politely for some accountability from the
  •  Bankers
  • Corporations
  • Federal Reserve
  • .gov
  • all the above
The questions;
  • what will protests accomplish
  • what will the various PTB reactions be
  • will this grow larger
I hearts me some street theater. Even or especially this odd mix of students, anarchists, dirty filthy hippies, etc., you know ... the usual suspects. The ones that put "protesting" in their FB profile.

Prohibition

It's been called the "boob tube", a vast wasteland, or the "idiot box".
But sometimes, television transcends those derogatory labels and becomes a tool of enlightenment and education. Tonight Public Television premiers the new Ken Burns and Lynn Novick film titled Prohibition.

If you've seen their Civil War series you know the depth that this film-making team bring to a topic.

I plan on watching all 5½ hours of this one. I want to know how the Temperance movement gathered enough steam to amend the Constitution. More importantly, how was that situation reversed?

I'm hoping it may shed some light on the current state of affairs with the "War on Stuff that about half the population uses regularly".
The question that I've had for years, was the prior generation smarter than us, or did they have more backbone? Or both?
